regulates the amount of envelope voltage that enters (usually) the VCF or VCA. Note that the sustain control is a level control within the envelope generator which sets the sustain level relative to the peak found at the end of the attack portion of the envelope, while the contour amount control increases or reduces the entire envelope, including the peak, proportionally.
